New Delhi: In a heartwarming initiative, the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, orchestrated the ‘Watan Ko Jano’ Programme, enabling 250 specially-abled children from Jammu and Kashmir to embark on a transformative journey to Delhi and Agra.
The Youth Exchange programme, conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, aims to provide the youth and children of the region with exposure to the rich social and cultural diversity of our country. The program is a testament to the commitment of the MHA, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, to foster initiatives that contribute to the development and progress of the youth and children of Jammu & Kashmir.
The group of 250 specially-abled children, including 62 girls and 188 boys aged between 6 to 18 years, had the unique opportunity to explore the historical and cultural marvels of Agra and Delhi. As part of their enriching experience, the children had the privilege to interact with Union Home Secretary Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other senior officers in New Delhi today.
The ‘Watan Ko Jano’ initiative focuses on children from terrorism-affected families and those belonging to the weaker sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir. Identified by the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Council, these children are selected for exposure trips that not only provide a break from their routine but also offer a chance to witness and learn from the diverse heritage and culture that our nation embodies.
This program reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, ensuring that every child, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, has the opportunity to explore and learn from the vast tapestry of India’s cultural heritage. As these specially-abled children create lasting memories during this unique journey, it reinforces the significance of initiatives that foster unity, understanding, and a sense of national identity among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
