Odisha Launches 112 as Unified Emergency Call Number

Bhubaneswar: The unified emergency call number (112) has been made functional in Odisha from September 15.

In the first stage, the emergency call number 100 and 101 of police and fire service have been integrated with the unified number 112.

Attending a meeting regarding this, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra directed to make response system full proof with least response time.

He also emphasized upon minimizing the response time between the receipt of a call and reaching of the vehicle at service delivery point.

The State Emergency Response Center has been functioning round the clock with 124 call takers.

To reach out maximum  people, at present 551 vehicles have been engaged for providing services. More vehicles will be included in coming days.

Mahapatra directed the authorities of Home Department to carryout continuous and extensive awareness activities  to spread information about the new unified number so that people could make use of the system. 

The issues relating to integration of 108 ambulance services with the new number was also discussed in the meeting.
