Amartya’s Son of Adam Triumphs at Film Festival in Mexico

Bhubaneswar: Son of Adam, the collaborative venture of National Award winning filmmaker Amartya Bhattacharyya and rock icon Rupam Islam, has made a resounding mark on the international film stage by winning four major awards at the International Guadalajara Film Awards (IGFA), Mexico. Son of Adam is also the latest cinematic creation from Odisha-based Swastik Arthouse, that has garnered accolades in the categories of Best Feature, Best Experimental Film, Best Director, and a Special Mention for Best Indie Feature Film. This film is written and directed by Amartya.

IGFA, a newly established festival aimed at celebrating bold and innovative creators of independent cinema, is held in Guadalajara, Mexico, one of the world’s most iconic cinematic cities. The May 2024 edition highlighted Son of Adam as a standout among global entries, recognizing its artistic ingenuity and storytelling excellence.

Son of Adam is noted for its visually stunning cinematography, shot across various exotic locations in Odisha, including Keonjhar, Puri, and Sundargarh. The film also features scenes from Kolkata, Darjeeling, and the Andaman Islands, capturing previously unexplored landscapes that add to its unique visual appeal.

The film is an adaptation of Rupam Islam’s groundbreaking 2020 album “Aami.” Islam, a celebrated National Award-winning rock icon, describes the songs in “Aami” as deeply philosophical and autobiographical. “Son of Adam” endeavors to translate these profound musical pieces into a cinematic experience, exploring the depths of human emotion and existence.

Produced by Swastik Choudhury in collaboration with FilmStop Entertainment, the film features Choudhury himself in the lead role, with Priyanka Ghosh Roy playing the female lead. Their compelling performances have been integral to the film’s critical acclaim.

“Son of Adam” premiered globally at the 77th International Film Festival of Salerno in Italy last December. Following its premiere, the film won the “Best Musical Film” award at the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Madrid in Spain. It also received an official selection at the San Antonio Independent Film Festival in Ecuador, further establishing its reputation in the global independent film circuit.
