Amarda Road Airstrip to Be Operationalized Soon

Bhubaneswar: The Amarda Road (Rasgovindapur) airstrip is set to be operational soon, according to recent discussions held by Odisha state officials. Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister of Commerce and Transport, Steel and Mines, held elaborate discussions with Dr. Krusha Chandra Mohapatra, Minister of Housing and Urban Development and Public Enterprises, regarding the airstrip’s development.

During the meeting, Minister Jena reviewed the progress of the work and emphasized the need for the earliest completion of necessary formalities. The discussion also included the all-around development of Jharsuguda Airport, with Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA of Jharsuguda, in attendance.

The Amarda Road airstrip, a former wartime airfield located near Rasgovindpur in Mayurbhanj District, was built in the 1940s and boasts an 11,000-foot concrete runway. The proposal to renovate the airstrip under the UDAN Scheme aims to transform it into a commercial airport. This will involve acquiring more land and developing the necessary infrastructure.

Minister Jena expressed confidence that the project will be realized soon, marking a significant step towards enhancing the region’s connectivity and economic development.
