Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has taken a significant step toward transforming burn treatment and patient care by collaborating with Australia’s Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH). As part of this initiative, globally renowned burn care expert Dr. Marcus Wagstaff, Head of the Adult Burns Service at RAH, visited the Burn Centre at AIIMS Bhubaneswar to explore research partnerships, technological advancements, and innovative treatment approaches.
Dr. Wagstaff’s visit was marked by extensive discussions with AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s leadership, including Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Head of Burns & Plastic Surgery Dr. Sanjay Kumar Giri, Medical Superintendent Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, and senior faculty members. Their dialogue focused on integrating advanced burn treatment techniques, sharing best practices, and launching collaborative research projects to improve patient outcomes.
Welcoming Dr. Wagstaff, Dr. Biswas highlighted the potential of this partnership in redefining burn care, not just in India but globally. “With international collaboration, we can bring new treatment methodologies and rehabilitation strategies that will significantly enhance patient recovery and overall care standards,” he stated.
During his visit, Dr. Wagstaff, who also heads the RAH Skin Engineering Laboratory, praised the infrastructure and medical expertise at AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s Burn Centre. He emphasized the importance of global partnerships in addressing complex medical challenges. “By working together, we can develop innovative solutions that improve burn management, making treatment more effective and accessible,” he said.
