AI-Enabled Cameras to Strengthen Security in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: To enhance security and curb crime rates, the Twin City Police Commissioner, S. Dev Datta Singh, announced plans to install more artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras in the cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Addressing the media on Monday, Commissioner Singh revealed that approximately 1,000 cameras have already been installed across various points in the twin cities. However, he acknowledged that the current number of cameras is insufficient given the population and security needs of the area. He stated, “We believe that, considering our population and security requirements, these cameras are inadequate. Therefore, we have recommended to the government that additional cameras be installed.”

These new cameras will not only be a step up in surveillance but will be equipped with AI technology to enhance their functionality. According to Singh, the AI-enabled cameras will significantly improve the identification of criminals and aid in more precise analytics. “These AI cameras will help identify criminals and improve analytics, which will strengthen our prevention and detection efforts. By adding more cameras and advanced technology, we believe we can make our security system more efficient and responsive,” he said.

The announcement comes after recent incidents of crime, including robberies, where the police were able to apprehend suspects and recover stolen property. Singh encouraged apartment owners to contribute to the overall security effort by installing additional CCTV cameras and considering the hiring of security personnel.

The police department is determined to make both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack safer through the expansion of surveillance infrastructure and the integration of cutting-edge technology.
