Advanced Skill Training Transforms Odisha’s Youth at TTI, Takatpur

Baripada: In a major push to equip Odisha’s youth with industry-ready skills, the state government is revamping Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Polytechnic Institutes, with a particular focus on strengthening their infrastructure. Among them, the Technical Training Institute (TTI) in Takatpur, located in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district, has undergone a significant transformation with financial support from the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC).

Established in 1957, TTI Takatpur has long been a hub for vocational training, attracting students from Mayurbhanj and neighboring districts. The recent upgradation aims to further enhance technical education and career opportunities for students, preparing them for national and international job markets.

With OMBADC’s support, an Advanced CNC Milling and Turning Lab has been set up at TTI, featuring industry-standard machinery that provides hands-on training. This facility aligns with modern industrial requirements, allowing students to gain cutting-edge skills essential for the evolving global workforce.

“Under the ‘Skilled in Odisha’ initiative, we are focused on equipping youth with advanced technical expertise. The support from OMBADC has enabled the installation of high-tech equipment, including CNC labs, robotic and virtual welding simulators, which help students meet global industry standards and enhance their career prospects,” said Kandan Majhi, Principal of TTI, Takatpur.

In response to the growing demand for skilled welders, a Centre of Excellence in advanced welding has also been established at TTI. This facility features state-of-the-art welding equipment, including MIG and TIG machines, as well as robotic and virtual welding simulators. With skilled trainers undergoing specialized ‘Training of Trainers’ programs, students receive expert guidance in these cutting-edge techniques. The institute also offers short-term training courses, ensuring that students secure jobs in various industries after completing their training.

As renewable energy gains prominence worldwide, TTI Takatpur has also taken a step towards sustainability with the installation of a 50 KW ‘Rooftop On-Grid Solar’ system, contributing to energy conservation efforts.

The upgradation of TTI, Takatpur, through OMBADC’s assistance, is playing a crucial role in shaping a skilled workforce in Mayurbhanj. Many students from the tribal-majority district are securing employment in mining and industrial sectors, contributing to the economic growth and sustainable development of the region.
