President Droupadi Murmu Advocates Women Empowerment and Development in Tura, Meghalaya

Tura: In a significant engagement, President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, engaged with the members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at Baljek Airport, Tura, Meghalaya, on January 16, 2024. The President, during her visit, virtually laid the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex in Tura.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu emphasized the pivotal role of women empowerment across social, economic, political, and spiritual domains, highlighting its significance in realizing India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. She acknowledged the impactful contributions of Indian women across diverse fields, ranging from defence, science, technology, sports, education, entrepreneurship, to agriculture.

President Murmu stressed the importance of encouraging women through supportive words and actions, emphasizing that the idea of women-led development materializes when women have the freedom to make choices. Economic independence, she noted, fosters greater self-confidence among women, making them active contributors to the nation’s socio-economic development.

While commending the Government of India’s efforts to enhance women’s participation in various sectors, President Murmu acknowledged the need for continued strides in women empowerment. She urged citizens to recognize and support the value and qualities of the women in their midst. The President encouraged SHG members to not only progress themselves but also extend a helping hand to other women, emphasizing that their journey is not solitary but shared with countless women yet to explore opportunities beyond their homes.

President Droupadi Murmu called on SHG members to become inspirations for other women in their region and the nation. The event underscored the commitment towards fostering an environment of empowerment, choice, and support for women, echoing the vision of a progressive and inclusive India.
