Centre Approves Procurement of Pulses, Oilseeds for Odisha Under PSS for Rabi 2025–26

Bhubaneswar: In a significant boost to farmers, the Government of India has approved procurement of pulses and oilseeds under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the Rabi 2025–26 season, following a high-level virtual meeting between Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

The approval comes after a request from the Odisha government and covers key crops including pulses such as green gram and black gram, along with oilseeds like sunflower, groundnut, and mustard.

Highlighting the importance of the move, Singh Deo said special emphasis will be placed on promoting sunflower cultivation in western Odisha, particularly in Kalahandi district, to enhance production and ensure better price realisation for farmers. He added that the state government will closely monitor procurement operations under the Price Support Scheme to ensure transparency and timely purchase of produce.

Officials said the initiative is expected to provide remunerative prices to farmers and protect them from market fluctuations, thereby strengthening the agricultural economy in the state.
