Bhubaneswar: Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Hirli, has brought national acclaim to Odisha by securing the Second Position at the National Level Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) Competition, held among nearly 200 EMRS institutions across the country. The competition was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India.
The MYGS National Award Ceremony was held on January 28, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Students of EMRS Hirli, accompanied by their Principal and Guide Teacher, were felicitated for their exceptional performance in demonstrating democratic participation, leadership, and civic awareness. The team received a cash award of ₹75 lakh along with a memento, presented by the Hon’ble Minister of Panchayati Raj.
The achievement marks a proud moment for Eklavya Model Residential Schools in Odisha, the Odisha Model Tribal Education Society (OMTES), and the State as a whole. Officials said the success reflects the school’s sustained efforts to nurture leadership qualities, democratic values, and active civic engagement among tribal students.
The students and the Principal of EMRS Hirli expressed gratitude to B. Parameswaran, Chairman, OMTES and Commissioner-cum-Secretary, STSC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department; Surendra Kumar Meena, Secretary, OMTES; and Pranati Patro, Nodal Officer, OMTES, for their guidance and encouragement. The officials commended the students’ dedication, teamwork, and exemplary participation, which played a key role in achieving national-level recognition.
