Bhubaneswar: A five-day induction training programme for Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) appointed in Non-Government Aided Higher Secondary Schools under the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE), Odisha, commenced today at the Institute of Management and Advance Global Excellence (IMAGE), Shreepur. A total of 125 PGT teachers are participating in this comprehensive training initiative aimed at enhancing their professional skills and classroom effectiveness.
The inaugural session was graced by Subhasree Nanda, Additional Secretary, School & Mass Education Department; Raghuram R. Iyer, Director, DHSE; Sasmita Mali, Joint Director, DHSE; Snigdha Mishra, Joint Director, DHSE; and Jitendra Nayak, Deputy Director, DHSE.
Speaking on the occasion, Nanda stressed the importance of continuous skill development among teachers, noting that such training opportunities play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education. “Self-study, personality development, and professional upskilling are crucial for teachers to become effective mentors for students,” she said.
Director Iyer highlighted the broader objectives of the programme and informed participants that, unlike earlier sessions held in two phases, the current training for PGTs will be conducted in four distinct phases to allow for more in-depth learning and interaction. “This initiative focuses not just on academic instruction, but on the holistic development of teachers as individuals and professionals,” he added.
The training curriculum includes sessions on Odisha Career Portal Management, Professional Development of Teachers, Classroom Management, Teaching Skills, and Vision Building for Aspirational Schools. Additionally, based on feedback from previous programmes, new components have been introduced, such as i-GOT Karmayogi App usage, Vocational Education awareness, Scholarship guidance, Nutrition and health for effective classrooms, and the concept of climate-resilient schools.
Group activities and interactive learning modules are also part of the programme, fostering peer learning and collaborative problem-solving. The training is designed to equip the newly inducted PGTs with modern tools and strategies to navigate the evolving landscape of secondary education.
