Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards digital governance in the irrigation sector, the Odisha government is set to implement sensor-based Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor Community Lift Irrigation Projects (CLIPs) across the state. The initiative aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and real-time monitoring of irrigation infrastructure.
A high-level meeting on the proposal was held today at Lokseva Bhawan under the chairpersonship of Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Water Resources, Smt. Anu Garg, IAS. Officials discussed the roadmap for integrating IoT technology with the Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC) projects.
As per the plan, around 37,000 CLIPs will be covered in the first phase of the IoT rollout. These smart devices will track operational status, water usage, and system performance, enabling data-driven decisions and timely interventions.
The meeting witnessed active participation from the Managing Director of OLIC, CEO of OCAC, Engineer-in-Chief of RWSS, Chief Engineer of RWSS, and other senior officials of OLIC.
By leveraging advanced technology for real-time governance, Odisha is aiming to optimize irrigation delivery, improve service delivery to farmers, and promote sustainable water resource management.
