Odisha Govt appoints former defender Indian hockey team Birendra Lakra as DSP
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government appointed on Thursday Olympic bronze medallist and hockey player Birendra Lakra as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Odisha Police .
The star defender was part of the Indian hockey team that won bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics after a gap of 41 years.
Welcoming Birendra on board Odisha Police tweeted on the account,

31 year Lakra, who hails from Sundargarh district has been a key player in the Indian team. He was also part of the squad that won gold medal in the Incheon Asian Games team in 2014 and also the part of the team that claimed bronze in 2018 in Jakarta.
In September last year, Lakra announced his retirement from the Indian national team.
