Chapter Convention on Quality Concepts 2024 Concludes Successfully in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: The two-day Chapter Convention on Quality Concepts (CCQC) 2024, organized by the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) Visakhapatnam Chapter, concluded today at the Multipurpose Hall of Ukku Club, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The convention, held on September 19th and 20th, brought together over 660 delegates from 34 organizations, fostering an environment of knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, Chief Guest GVN Prasad, Director (Commercial), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), praised the scale of the event, likening it to a mini national convention. He congratulated the QCFI Visakhapatnam Chapter for organizing such a successful gathering, stating, “The convention theme ‘Investing in People, Building a Better Future’ is timely and highly relevant. To ensure a better future, we must invest in upskilling and empowering our workforce to meet the evolving demands of today’s competitive business environment.”
Prasad emphasized the importance of Total Employee Involvement (TEI) in achieving long-term success. He highlighted that Vizag Steel, as the first Public Sector Steel Plant to implement 5S—one of the lean management practices across the organization—has been at the forefront of quality improvement initiatives. “Vizag Steel is the first 5S-certified Steel PSU in the country, and QCFI has been a trusted partner in achieving this mission,” he added.
Amid applause, Prasad lauded RINL employees for their accomplishments on the global stage. He noted that last year, three teams from RINL secured Gold Awards at the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) 2023 in Beijing, China. This year, RINL has nominated three more teams to participate in ICQCC 2024, scheduled to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in November.
Rear Admiral R. Vijay Sekhar, Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, also spoke at the event, underscoring the critical role of employee involvement in workplace success. He encouraged organizations to prioritize initiatives like Quality Circles and the 5S Workplace Management System, echoing the need for continuous improvement in operations.
Other esteemed speakers, including Sanjay Kumar Sinha, CGM & Head of Projects at NTPC Simhadri, and Sri Gnana Sundaram, Head of Coromandel International, Vizag, shared their insights on the importance of such conventions in fostering knowledge exchange and enhancing organizational productivity. Both speakers commended QCFI Visakhapatnam’s efforts in promoting quality initiatives across industries.
The Chairman of QCFI Visakhapatnam Chapter, G Gandhi, CGM (HR) at RINL, expressed gratitude to all participating organizations for their involvement and support. Vice Chairman Cmde Sanjay Kumar, GM (HR & QA) at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam, and Honorary Secretary MECV Sagar congratulated the award winners for their outstanding presentations and thanked all member organizations for their participation, making CCQC 2024 a resounding success.
