Ministry of Heavy Industries Celebrates FAME II Success and Unveils PM E-DRIVE Scheme to Accelerate EV Adoption
New Delhi: The Ministry of Heavy Industries hosted a significant event titled “FAME’s Success in Transforming India’s EV Landscape: From Vision to Reality” at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event, which was graced by Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Steel, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, and Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Shri Kamran Rizvi, brought together senior government officials and automotive industry leaders to celebrate the achievements of the FAME II scheme and discuss future initiatives.
In his keynote address, Union Minister Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2070. “The FAME scheme stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable transportation,” Kumaraswamy stated. He underscored the importance of continuous innovation, investment, and inspiration to lead the global electric mobility transformation.
The Minister also introduced the newly approved PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, designed to further accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). This new initiative will offer substantial upfront incentives and focus on developing crucial charging infrastructure. “Our goal is to reduce the environmental footprint, improve air quality, and build a competitive and resilient EV manufacturing industry,” Kumaraswamy added.
Secretary Kamran Rizvi acknowledged the efforts of industry leaders who played a pivotal role in the success of FAME II. He highlighted that the scheme not only tackled complex challenges but also fostered significant progress in domestic value addition within the EV sector. “As we move forward, our focus must be on addressing climate change and achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of net zero emissions,” Rizvi emphasized.
The FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) Scheme has been instrumental in boosting the development and adoption of electric vehicles in India. Key achievements under FAME II from April 1, 2019, to August 31, 2024, include:
- 14,32,450 electric two-wheelers (e-2W) supported with a budget of ₹4,924 crore
- 1,65,806 electric three-wheelers (e-3W) funded with ₹1,116 crore
- 22,637 electric four-wheelers (e-4W) backed by ₹537 crore
- 6,862 electric buses supported with ₹3,009 crore
- ₹913 crore allocated for installing 10,763 Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS)
- Total fuel saved: 4.29 crore litres (as of August 31, 2024)
- Total CO2 emission reduction: 1.2 lakh tonnes (as of August 31, 2024)
With the launch of the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, the Ministry of Heavy Industries is poised to make further strides in promoting sustainable and inclusive mobility. This initiative aims to enhance EV adoption across the country, boost local innovation and manufacturing, and align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a greener future.
Additionally, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced a dividend of ₹54,99,12,601 for the financial year 2023-24, reflecting the company’s strong performance and commitment to shareholder value.
