India Shines at WorldSkills 2024: Wins Four Bronze Medals and 12 Medallions of Excellence in Lyon, France

Lyon, France: India has made a remarkable mark on the global stage at WorldSkills 2024, securing four prestigious Bronze medals and 12 Medallions of Excellence. The competition, held in Lyon, witnessed over 1,400 participants from 70 countries, showcasing their skills across various trades. India, competing in 52 categories, stood strong among the best in the world, marking significant achievements in Patisserie and Confectionery, Industry 4.0, Hotel Reception, and Renewable Energy.

The Bronze medalists include Ashwitha Police in Patisserie and Confectionery, Dhrumilkumar Dhirendrakumar Gandhi and Sathyajith Balakrishnan in Industry 4.0, Joethir Adithya Krishnapriya Ravikumar in Hotel Reception, and Amaresh Kumar Sahu in Renewable Energy. Their victories are a testament to India’s growing prominence in global skills competitions, particularly in areas that align with future-oriented sectors.

Ashwitha Police, who also received the Best of Nation Award, became the most outstanding competitor from Team India. A student from Dr. Ambedkar Open University, Telangana, Ashwitha’s fascination with sweets began in childhood and grew into a pursuit of culinary excellence, guided by mentor Chef Vinesh Johny. Her success highlights India’s emerging talent in culinary arts on the world stage, especially in France, a country known for its expertise in Patisserie.

Speaking about her achievement, Ashwitha said, “It’s a dream come true to represent my country and win a medal. The journey has been challenging but incredibly rewarding.”

India’s presence at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 showcased its talents across diverse skill categories, including traditional sectors and cutting-edge fields. The Industry 4.0 team, led by Bronze medalists Dhrumilkumar Gandhi and Sathyajith Balakrishnan, expressed pride in contributing to India’s leap into new-age skills that align with the future of work. Competitors in Hotel Reception and Renewable Energy also expressed their excitement about representing India and contributing to the country’s growing stature in the global skills ecosystem.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), congratulated Team India, stating, “Performing at this level under immense pressure is no easy feat. I wholeheartedly congratulate Team India for their exceptional achievements. The Bronze medals and Medallions of Excellence reaffirm India’s commitment to global excellence in skill development.”

He further emphasized the importance of nurturing future-ready skills, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Kushal and Viksit Bharat” (Skilled and Developed India). Shri Chaudhary commended the competitors’ dedication and announced continued support for young Indian talents to excel on international platforms.

India’s triumph at WorldSkills 2024 is a significant milestone in the country’s journey to becoming a global skills leader. The nation’s 12 Medallions of Excellence across trades like Mechatronics, Cyber Security, Jewellery, and Beauty Therapy reflect India’s growing expertise in both craftsmanship and innovation-driven sectors. These achievements solidify India’s status as a hub for innovation, sustainable practices, and technological expertise on the world stage.

The Indian competitors underwent rigorous training, backed by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and several industry partners. These organizations provided world-class training, mock competitions, and exposure to global technologies, ensuring that the participants were well-prepared to meet international standards.
