Orissa High Court Stays State Film Awards
Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Monday put on hold the State Film Awards ceremony scheduled to be held on December 14-15.
The single judge bench of Justice Arindam Sinha directed the State government to re-evaluate all categories of the award.
A petition was filed by Odia film director Bobby Islam, alleging ‘favouritism’ by the selection committee of the 31st State Film Awards. Islam has also submitted his entries for the Odia film ‘Chhabirani’.
Islam alleged that the two selected films ‘Khusi’ and ‘Golmal Love’ are not original films and copied. He alleged that ‘Khusi’ which has been selected for several categories is a remake of Korean film ‘Hope’ whereas ‘Golmal Love’ has been copied from Punjabi film ‘Carry on Jatta’.
“Chhabirani is based on the true story of the 1980 Chhabirani gangrape and murder, however it was not selected” shared Islam.
