19th Divya Kala Mela Inaugurated in Visakhapatnam, Empowering Divyang Artisans and Entrepreneurs

Visakhapatnam: The 19th edition of the Divya Kala Mela was inaugurated today in Visakhapatnam by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, S. Abdul Nazeer, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, and local MPs M. Shribharat and G. Babu Rao.

The event marked a significant moment for Divyang (differently-abled) artisans and entrepreneurs, as concessional loans amounting to ₹40 lakh were distributed to 10 Divyang beneficiaries under NDFDC schemes. These loans aim to boost the entrepreneurial efforts of Divyangjan, helping them gain financial independence. Additionally, with the support of CSR partners including HPCL, GAIL India Ltd, IOCL, and Coromandel India Ltd, assistive devices were distributed to enhance their participation in socio-economic activities.

In his address, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer praised the Divya Kala Mela for its unique role in uniting diverse sections of society while promoting inclusivity. He remarked, “This fair not only empowers Divyang entrepreneurs but also fosters an inclusive society, showcasing their talent and creativity on a national stage.”

Dr. Virendra Kumar, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the importance of the event in promoting economic empowerment for Divyangjan. “The Divya Kala Mela is a testament to the incredible potential of Divyangjan. It provides them with a unique opportunity to display their skills and creativity while contributing to their economic empowerment,” he said.

The mela showcases high-quality products from nearly 100 Divyang artisans representing 20 states/UTs, offering a diverse array of handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery, and packaged foods. The initiative aligns with the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, giving Divyang artisans a larger platform to market their products and achieve financial independence.

The 11-day event, open from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, also features cultural performances by Divyang artists and food stalls offering regional delicacies from across the country, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

During the event, Dr. Virendra Kumar also briefed the media on the 100-day achievements of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, reinforcing the government’s commitment to empowering Divyangjan. In a gesture of community responsibility, dignitaries and attendees participated in a Swachhata Pledge, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and cleanliness.
