In a groundbreaking move on Tuesday, January 9, President Emmanuel Macron of France appointed Gabriel Attal as the country’s new Prime Minister, marking a historic moment as Attal, at 34 years old, became the youngest person ever to hold this prestigious position.
Before Attal, the title of the youngest French Prime Minister was held by Socialist leader Laurent Fabius, who assumed office at the age of 37 under President François Mitterrand in 1984. Gabriel Attal’s appointment follows the resignation of Elisabeth Borne, the former Prime Minister, who stepped down a day earlier amid challenges during her term.
Beyond his youth, Gabriel Attal brings a wealth of experience to the role. A member of President Macron’s political party, La République En Marche!, Attal has previously served as the Secretary of State for Education and Youth, showcasing his dedication to issues related to education and the younger generation. His background and commitment to public service position him as a dynamic leader tasked with navigating the country through its political challenges.
