Yoga Mahotsav-2024 Marks 100 Days Countdown to IDY-2024 with a Focus on Women Empowerment

New Delhi:  The Yoga Mahotsav-2024, a grand event organized at Vigyan Bhawan, marked the commencement of the 100 Days Countdown to the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY-2024), celebrated annually on June 21. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Women Empowerment,” resonates with the commitment to promote global health, peace, and the well-being of women worldwide.

Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, expressed the ministry’s dedication to making yoga a widespread movement, particularly focusing on women’s well-being. The Ministry has actively supported studies addressing various women’s health conditions, promoting evidence-based research to empower women of all ages and conditions. Yoga, as a comprehensive instrument, aims to enhance physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, fostering inclusivity and diversity across society.

Smt. Hansaji Jayadeva, Director of The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, emphasized the significance of maintaining a balanced state of mind, stating that good actions are the enduring currency sustaining individuals forever. She urged people to find joy in understanding others rather than being disturbed by their actions, highlighting yoga’s role in cultivating awareness of body, mind, and environment.

Dr. H.R. Nagendra, Chancellor of SVYASA University, Bengaluru, underlined yoga as a science of holistic living. He emphasized the potential of integrating Ayush healthcare, especially yoga, into daily lives to combat modern lifestyle disorders and non-communicable diseases. Dr. Nagendra envisioned spreading yoga to every corner of India and the world, positioning India as a leader in the global yoga movement.

The event witnessed the presence of dignitaries such as Joint Secretary Ayush, Smt. Kavita Garg, DDG Ministry of Ayush Satyjit Paul, Advisor (Ayurveda) Vaidya Manoj Nesari, Chairman of the National Commission of Homoeopathy Dr. Anil Khurana, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Ayush.

Director of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Smt. Vijaylakshmi Bhardwaj, welcomed the esteemed guests and highlighted the recent milestones achieved by MDNIY, showcasing upgraded IT assets like the Ayush Yoga Portal, MDNIY website, Namaste Yoga & Y-Break App. These resources, available in the public domain, offer easy access in bilingual mode, featuring personalized yoga routines, progress tracking, and meditation sessions. The mobile apps cater to both Android and iOS users, ensuring broader reach, improved performance, and stability.

The one-day Yoga Mahotsav-2024 included theme-based technical sessions, a panel discussion on “Yoga & Women Empowerment: Different Dimensions,” and captivating yoga demonstrations. The 100 Days Countdown aims to maximize yoga’s reach by garnering support from leading yoga organizations, Yog Gurus, and Ayush stakeholders. The event marks a significant step towards promoting the holistic well-being of women and fostering a global culture of health and peace through the practice of yoga.
