Bhubaneswar: Timely completion of water supply and sewerage projects, effective use of funds and improved service delivery were among the key issues discussed at a review meeting of the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), chaired by Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra at Unnati Bhawan.
During the meeting, WATCO Managing Director Debabrata Mohanty presented an overview of the corporation’s operational jurisdiction and the progress of ongoing water supply and sewerage projects. The presentation covered the status of water treatment plants (WTPs) and sewage treatment plants (STPs), physical and financial progress, expenditure and project timelines.
The Minister stressed the need to ensure that projects are completed within their stipulated timelines and that allocated funds are utilised effectively. He also called for regular monitoring, adherence to quality standards and better coordination among departments to address implementation-related bottlenecks.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for bringing newly constituted Notified Area Councils (NACs) under WATCO’s jurisdiction, including the process of taking over and handing over relevant responsibilities. The proposed transfer of sewerage works from WATCO to the Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB), as per the Government Notification, was also discussed to ensure clarity in responsibilities and continuity of work.
The Minister emphasised that project implementation should translate into better services for citizens. He called for financial discipline, close supervision of ongoing works and timely resolution of issues affecting execution.
The meeting further discussed the SUJAL Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign, scheduled to run from October 2 to 16, 2026. The campaign will focus on public awareness about water services, responsible water use, service-related practices and greater citizen participation.
Senior officials attended the meeting. WATCO Director (Projects) proposed the vote of thanks.
