
Mumbai: The Yachting Association of India (YAI) Senior Nationals – 2024 is underway from May 12 to May 18, 2024, hosted by the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Mumbai, with support from the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA) and Naval Headquarters.
This prestigious event serves as a National ranking competition for all Senior Olympic classes, drawing participants from across the country. Set against the scenic backdrop of Mumbai harbour, the races provide an ideal setting for yachtspersons to vie for top honors in the national rankings. A total of 82 participants from 10 prominent sailing clubs have registered for the event.
Competitors are engaged in a variety of classes, including ILCA 7 (Men), ILCA 6 (Women), 470 (Mixed), 49er (Men), 49er FX (Women), IQFoil (Men), IQFoil (Women), Formula Kite (Men), and Formula Kite (Women). The races are conducted in a single series, with the main races starting on May 13 and the medal race scheduled for May 18, 2024.
To ensure the fairness and professionalism of the races, a team of International Race Officers and International Judges appointed by World Sailing, the governing body of sailing worldwide, is overseeing the event. Alongside Indian race officials, international judges from Australia, Korea, and Singapore have formed an International Jury to uphold the integrity of the sport and oversee the conduct of the races.
