Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Maoist-affected district of Malkangiri in Odisha celebrated the formal inauguration of its long-anticipated airport on Tuesday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the airport on Tuesday.
An investment of approximately Rs 29 crore has gone into the airport’s construction, including the development of a 1,602-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway. Nestled on 106 acres of land, the airport is tailored to accommodate small aircraft, akin to the existing facility in Koraput.
The successful trial run of a nine-seater VT-100 double-engine flight on January 7 served as a pivotal moment for the Malkangiri airport.
CM also received the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Satpadhara Irrigation Project, a transformative initiative slated to kick off its operations in April. The irrigation project is poised to bring significant benefits to approximately 37,000 hectares of land.
