“Vividdhta ka Amrit Mahotsav” Unveils Northeast India’s Cultural Splendor at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi: The grand inauguration of the first-ever ‘Vividdhta ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at Rashtrapati Bhavan marked the commencement of a spectacular celebration showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of Northeast India. Running from February 8th to 11th, 2024, the event, organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, witnessed an unprecedented display of diversity, artistry, and tradition.

The event was inaugurated by the esteemed President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, accompanied by the Minister of DoNER, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, who led the felicitation ceremony.

In his address, Minister Reddy expressed gratitude to President Murmu for her unwavering support towards the development of the Northeast Region. He highlighted the region’s transformation into a national priority since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing the government’s commitment to erasing all distances – be they physical, political, or cultural – with the Northeast. Minister Reddy underscored the potential of the region’s rich heritage as a key to unlimited prosperity, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to unlock this potential.

Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Earth Sciences, also delivered an insightful address, acknowledging the significant transformation of the Northeast over the past decade. The presence of Governors and Chief Ministers from all eight states of the Northeast added prestige to the occasion.

The Mahotsav featured over 320 stalls, each dedicated to showcasing the unique handicrafts, handlooms, and agro products of the eight culturally rich states. Visitors had the opportunity to explore and appreciate the best of Northeast India, including exquisite handcrafted products, sustainable handicrafts, and organic agro products.

A highlight of the event was the Geographical Indication (GI) Pavilion, featuring 25+ textile, craft, and agricultural GI products from the Ashtlaxmi states. From the renowned Muga Silk of Assam to the Wangkhei Phee of Manipur, the pavilion celebrated the cultural and geographical diversity of the region.

Live demonstrations at 20+ stations showcased traditional craftsmanship, including Majuli Mask making, Basket weaving, Lotus Silk Extraction, and more, offering attendees a firsthand experience of the skill and expertise behind these cultural treasures.

The cultural extravaganza featured Ashtalakshmi rangoli and fusion performances, with artists from all eight states captivating the audience with traditional dances. Over the next four days, more than 350 artists are scheduled to enthrall the audience with diverse performances.

The event also provided a gastronomic journey for visitors, with diverse food stalls offering the flavors and traditions of northeast India.

The Kids Activity Zone and Youth Engagement Zone buzzed with energy as young participants engaged in activities designed to creatively explore the historical and cultural richness of the Northeast.

In closing, the Ministry of Development of North East Region expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, dignitaries, and participants. ‘Vividdhta ka Amrit Mahotsav’ has set a precedent as a joyous celebration of unity in diversity, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Northeast’s contribution to our collective identity. The next four days are expected to attract an even greater footfall, building on the success of the inaugural day.
