Vinod Kambli Admitted to Thane Hospital with Brain Clots

Mumbai: Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to Akriti Hospital in Thane district, where medical examinations revealed the presence of brain clots, doctors treating him confirmed on Monday, December 23. Kambli was admitted to the private facility in Thane, Maharashtra, on December 21 after his health condition deteriorated.

Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who is overseeing Kambli’s treatment, stated that the 52-year-old cricketer initially complained of a urinary infection and cramps, which led to his hospitalization at Akruti Hospital in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi town.

Following a series of medical examinations, the medical team discovered clots in Kambli’s brain, prompting the need for continuous monitoring. Additional tests are scheduled for Tuesday to assess his condition further. Dr. Trivedi mentioned that the hospital in-charge, S. Singh, has decided to provide lifelong free treatment to Vinod Kambli at Akruti Hospital.

Kambli has faced health challenges for over a decade, and his post-retirement life has been marred by setbacks, including financial struggles and health complications.

A member of the 1996 World Cup squad, Kambli has remained a beloved figure in Indian cricket despite his ongoing struggles. Recently, Kambli attended a memorial event for his childhood coach, Ramakanth Achrekar, where he appeared visibly frail and emotional upon meeting his childhood friend and former India teammate, Sachin Tendulkar.

The Indian cricketing fraternity has come together to offer support for Kambli. Over the years, several former cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have extended assistance to the former cricketer, who has been candid about his battles with health issues and addiction to alcohol. In an interview earlier this year, Kambli revealed that he suffered two heart attacks in 2013 and had been facing severe urinary infections, with financial help from Sachin Tendulkar clearing misconceptions about their relationship.
