President Murmu Urges Young Doctors to Lead India’s Healthcare Transformation

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu today graced the convocation ceremony of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in the capital, inspiring the next generation of medical professionals to lead with compassion and innovation.

In her address, the President emphasized that the medical profession goes beyond being a livelihood, embodying a sacred responsibility to alleviate suffering, heal the sick, and contribute to societal well-being. She urged doctors to see their patients not just as medical cases but as human beings caught between fear and hope. “Doctors should be compassionate healers who provide not only treatment but also encouragement,” she said.

President Murmu highlighted the transformative potential of emerging technologies in medicine, such as Artificial Intelligence, mRNA advancements, robotics, and 3D bioprinting. She called for greater collaboration between medical and engineering institutions to drive innovation. Suggesting that Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital partner with Delhi’s engineering and technology institutes, she said, “Interdisciplinary knowledge sharing is essential for advancing healthcare.”

The President noted the government’s significant strides in improving the nation’s health infrastructure, citing state-of-the-art facilities at Safdarjung Hospital, including robotic renal transplants, cardiothoracic surgeries, and bone marrow transplants at affordable costs. However, she stressed that skilled and dedicated medical professionals are vital to fully realizing the benefits of these advancements.

“On average, 10,000 patients from across the country seek treatment at Safdarjung Hospital daily. It is heartening to see the hospital continuously innovate to enhance patient safety and convenience,” she remarked.

Addressing the young medical graduates, President Murmu urged them to play a pivotal role in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. She encouraged them to focus on education, research, and entrepreneurship to position India as a global leader in healthcare.

“As young doctors, you are the backbone of India’s healthcare system. Let it be your resolution to propel India to the forefront of global healthcare innovation,” she concluded.
