Vinesh Phogat Reaches Finals in Women’s 50kg Freestyle at Paris Olympics 2024

Paris: Indian wrestling sensation Vinesh Phogat has advanced to the finals of the women’s 50kg freestyle event at the Paris Olympics 2024, securing a medal for India. Phogat achieved this milestone with a decisive 5-0 victory over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman.

The match saw Vinesh Phogat taking an early lead, ending the first period 1-0 as Guzman conceded a point due to passivity. Demonstrating her dominance, Phogat maintained her lead and added four more points in the second period to seal her place in the finals.

Phogat’s journey to the finals has been nothing short of remarkable. In the round of 16, she stunned the wrestling world by defeating reigning Olympic and four-time world champion Yui Susaki of Japan. Susaki, who had an undefeated streak in her previous 82 international bouts, was handed her first loss by the Indian wrestler. Phogat continued her impressive run by overcoming Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals, becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the semifinals at the Olympics.

With her finals appearance, Vinesh Phogat has guaranteed India a medal in the ongoing Games, adding to her illustrious career and inspiring countless athletes back home. The final match is eagerly anticipated as Phogat aims to clinch the gold and etch her name in Olympic history.
