Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar Calls for Legislative Enlightenment and Unity in Address to Mizoram Assembly

Aizawl:  In a compelling address to the 9th Mizoram Legislative Assembly, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar called upon legislators to play a decisive role in guiding the executive, ensuring the nation progresses in the right direction. Describing the state of Mizoram as full of hope and possibilities, Dhankhar urged the assembly to work through the wisdom of the Legislature to unleash opportunities for the youth.

“In tandem and togetherness, evolve a mechanism so that the youth of your state can take full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead. It is time for you to unlock these and reward the nation and state with progress,” Vice-President Dhankhar emphasized during his address.

Commending the discipline and decorum displayed by the members of the Mizoram assembly, Dhankhar deemed it worth emulating by other legislative bodies. He noted that the performance of the assembly was “quite close to that of the Constituent Assembly in terms of decorum,” highlighting the positive impact such an ecosystem has on the state and the nation’s prosperity.

Addressing the historic election of three women members in the assembly for the first time, the Vice-President underscored the significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, mandating one-third reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state legislatures. He highlighted that the involvement of women in legislatures will be transformational in the evolution of policies and governance.

Praising the transformative role played by the Act-East policy, Dhankhar emphasized the crucial role of the North-East council in infrastructure development, including the construction of over 12,000 kilometers of roads, 700 MW power plants, and the establishment of national institutions. He referred to the last decade as the “Golden Era of the northeast,” witnessing unprecedented growth.

Vice-President Dhankhar also highlighted the exponential rise in physical and digital connectivity in North East India due to the remarkable focus and a separate department, DONER (Development of North Eastern Region).

Recognizing the tourism and horticulture potential of Mizoram, Dhankhar stated, “Mizoram is gifted with incredible beauty and cultural richness. Mizoram is a dream destination for tourists.” He emphasized that developmental activities in the region would enhance tourism.

In conclusion, Shri Dhankhar exhorted those present to prioritize their nationalism and take pride in being Indians. Quoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Vice-President said, “You should be Indian first, Indian last, and nothing else but Indian.” The event was attended by Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Mizoram, Shri Lalbiakzama, Speaker of Mizoram Legislative Assembly, members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, and other dignitaries.
