Vice-President Addresses World Sustainable Development Summit, Emphasizes Global Leadership in Environmental Protection

New Delhi: The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, highlighted the need for global leadership to drive the mainstreaming of environmental protection and climate justice at all levels. Speaking at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2024 at TERI in New Delhi, Shri Dhankhar emphasized the interconnected nature of challenges faced by nations, stressing the importance of adopting people and nature-centric approaches.

During his address, Shri Dhankhar listed India’s initiatives that balance economic growth with ecological preservation, positioning India as an inspiration for other nations. He underscored the significance of transitioning to clean and renewable energy sources, noting that India’s commitment to renewable energy contributes to mitigating the impacts of climate change while fostering economic growth, job creation, and technological innovation.

Expressing concerns about the looming threat of climate change, the Vice-President emphasized the need to harmonize economic progress with a commitment to sustainable development. He called for collaborative efforts, innovation, and international cooperation to address the challenges and pave the way for a sustainable and secure future.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including H.E. Brigadier (Retd) Mark Phillips, Prime Minister of Guyana, Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Nitin Desai, Chairman of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), and other key figures in the field of sustainable development.
