
Bhubaneswar: Eminent singer Nirmala Mishra passed away on Sunday at her residence in Kolkata. She was a prominent singer in Odia and Bengali film industry during 1960s and 1970s. She was 81 and was suffering from old age-related complications.
Nirmala was a household name in Odisha till 70s for her classic songs. She had rendered her voice in a number of Odia songs. Some of her popular songs are ‘Nida Bhara Rati Madhu Jhara Janha’, ‘Mo Mana Binara Tare’, ‘Jibana Jamunare Juara Uthere’, ‘Mayaghera Madhubane’ and ‘Ja Jare Bhasija Manapabana Nauka’ among others.
She worked with several renowned Odia music directors like Balakrushna Dash, Akshaya Mohanty, Shantanu Mohapatra. She sang in more than 20 Odia films.
