Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Reviews Flood Situation and Relief Operations in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, swiftly responded to the severe flood situation affecting the greater Dibrugarh region by visiting the area and overseeing the ongoing relief operations. The Minister’s visit covered several flash flood-affected areas, including Graham Bazaar, AT Road, HS Road, RKB Path, Mancotta Road, Thana Chariali, and Jhalukpara, as well as embankment sites at Tengakhat and Hatibandha.

During his visit to the relief camp at Tengakhat, Sonowal assessed the condition of flood-affected individuals and spoke with them to understand the extent of the material damage they had suffered. He instructed the District Commissioner to ensure cleanliness in the shelter camps and implement measures to prevent disease outbreaks. The Minister emphasized the importance of providing medical treatment at the camps, particularly for the elderly, women, and children.

Sonowal directed officials to expedite all necessary measures for flood victim relief and to intensify relief and rescue operations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Army, and Indian Air Force have joined forces with the district administration to conduct relief and rescue operations across various locations within the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Expressing his concern over the situation, Sarbananda Sonowal stated, “It is a matter of grave concern as the flood situation worsens in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, and many other parts of Assam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his deep concern and is taking regular updates on the situation. Both the central and state governments have joined forces to combat this natural disaster and to take all necessary steps to provide relief to the flood-affected people. The government will also take steps to provide financial relief for the loss of materials by people in this flood. I have also directed officials to urgently repair and build embankments.”
