Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Lays Foundation Stone for New Patient Care Facility at AMCH

Dibrugarh: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for a 37-bedded patient care facility block at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh. The new four-storied medical facility, designed to provide advanced healthcare services, will be built with an investment of ₹8.89 crore, funded by Oil India Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Speaking at the event, Sonowal emphasized the transformation of India’s healthcare sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, citing initiatives like Ayushman Arogya Bharat, which has made healthcare more affordable, accessible, and world-class. He stated that a Viksit Bharat begins with a healthy Bharat, and the government is committed to providing top-quality healthcare for all citizens.

Highlighting the significance of AMCH, Northeast India’s pioneering medical college, Sonowal acknowledged its vital role in serving Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and neighboring regions. He expressed confidence that the capacity expansion at AMCH would strengthen the region’s medical infrastructure, ensuring affordable and high-quality healthcare for the growing patient population.

Addressing medical students, the Minister underscored the importance of healthy living, urging them to adopt yoga, balanced nutrition, and mindful lifestyle practices. He encouraged future healthcare professionals to prioritize their well-being, emphasizing that a healthy mind and body are essential for delivering quality healthcare services and contributing meaningfully to nation-building.

The event was attended by Rituparna Baruah, Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), Akhim Hazarika, Chairman of District Development Authority (DDA), along with senior officials from Oil India Limited and AMCH. The upcoming facility is expected to enhance specialized medical care in Assam and reinforce the government’s commitment to healthcare excellence.
