Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Inaugurates National Symposium of CLFMA of India in Goa

Goa: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, inaugurated the two-day National Symposium of CLFMA of India in Goa yesterday. The event saw participation from key figures in the livestock sector, including CLFMA of India Chairman Suresh Deora, Animal Husbandry Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Mitra, and former Joint Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri O.P. Choudhary.

In his address, Rajiv Ranjan Singh highlighted the Central Government’s efforts to promote domestic solutions in animal husbandry and reduce dependence on imports. He discussed various government schemes aimed at organizing the unorganized dairy sector and tackling the challenges of feed and fodder shortages. Praising CLFMA’s initiatives, the Minister expressed hope that such symposia would contribute to government policy-making by providing valuable insights and recommendations from industry experts.

Suresh Deora, Chairman of CLFMA of India, emphasized the significant role of the livestock sector in India’s economy. He noted that the sector provides essential employment opportunities to farmers and those engaged in animal husbandry. “The industry boasts an impressive annual turnover of ₹12 lakh crore, and the global demand for high-quality livestock products such as eggs, meat, milk, and cheese continues to grow,” Deora stated, underscoring the sector’s contribution to the nation’s growth.

Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Animal Husbandry Commissioner at the Ministry, stressed the importance of enhanced coordination and collaboration between the government, industry, and research institutes to harness the full potential of India’s livestock sector. He highlighted the need for a unified approach to address challenges and maximize opportunities in this vital industry.

The symposium also featured a special moment when CLFMA of India honored Shri O.P. Choudhary with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to the field of animal husbandry and dairying.
