Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Visits India’s Largest Floating Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh

Khandwa: Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, visited the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. Boasting a capacity of 600 MW, the solar park is India’s largest and one of the largest in Asia, representing a significant milestone in the country’s renewable energy journey.

Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), Joshi expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for their unwavering support in advancing India’s clean energy goals. He stated, “This project showcases the scale and ambition of our nation’s clean energy goals.”

During his visit, Joshi emphasized the importance of innovative technologies like floating solar projects in overcoming land constraints and enhancing sustainability. He highlighted the efficiency of this approach, noting that the cooling effect of water improves the performance of solar panels, leading to higher energy output.

The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park has currently commissioned 278 MW of its total capacity. Developed at an estimated cost of ₹330 crore, the project has received ₹49.85 crore as Central Financial Assistance. Once fully operational, the park will produce over 4,600 million units of clean energy over the next 25 years, significantly contributing to India’s renewable energy targets.

Commending Madhya Pradesh’s role in India’s energy security, Joshi noted that the state has achieved a remarkable 14-fold increase in renewable energy capacity in just 12 years, growing from less than 500 MW in 2012 to its current levels.

In his X post, he congratulated all stakeholders involved in the project, including the Madhya Pradesh Government, Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited, NHDC Ltd, AMP Energy Green Pvt Ltd, and SJVN Ltd. He highlighted the successful commissioning of the 278 MW solar park and additional solar projects, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi last week.

Joshi reiterated the project’s significance as a testament to India’s commitment to achieving its sustainability and renewable energy goals. He described the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park as a critical step in India’s transition to clean energy and its global leadership in renewable energy adoption.

As the park progresses toward full capacity, it stands as a symbol of India’s innovative spirit and dedication to addressing climate challenges while fostering sustainable development.
