
New Delhi: The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, made an unannounced visit to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) headquarters today. Accompanied by Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, the visit aimed to gain firsthand insight into the operational dynamics and challenges faced by the corporation.
During his visit, Shri Joshi engaged in detailed discussions with senior FCI officials, emphasizing the critical importance of ensuring food security and improving the efficiency of food distribution across the country. He stressed the need for greater efficiency in FCI operations and a focused effort to reduce the cost and burden of subsidies. Additionally, during his tour of the office building, Shri Joshi suggested enhancing the infrastructure to better support the corporation’s activities. This visit marked his first engagement with FCI after taking charge of the Ministry.
The Union Minister interacted with the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of FCI, along with all Executive Directors, Chief General Managers (CGMs), and General Managers (GMs) of the organization. The CMD of FCI delivered a comprehensive presentation, highlighting the corporation’s workings and achievements. The presentation showcased FCI’s operational strategies, key initiatives, and its integral role in ensuring food security across the nation.
The CMD also pointed out areas where additional support and policy interventions could further strengthen FCI’s operations. The presentation emphasized FCI’s commitment to improving food distribution systems and highlighted recent successes and ongoing projects.
Shri Joshi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to closely monitoring and enhancing the efficiency of food distribution networks in India. His proactive approach aims to address existing challenges and support FCI in its mission to ensure the availability of food supplies across the country.
