New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster infrastructure and connectivity in Assam, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has given the nod for a Rs. 382.10 crore project. The initiative focuses on constructing a new 2-lane highway with paved shoulders that will connect Majuli and Jorhat on the recently designated NH 715K. This development also includes the construction of a flyover on NH-715, complete with its approaches and service roads, spanning a total length of 20.479 kilometers.
Shri Gadkari took to social media to announce the crucial infrastructure investment, highlighting its aim to establish direct road connectivity between Jorhat and Majuli. Currently, residents rely on river ferries across the Brahmaputra during daylight hours, which raises safety concerns, especially during periods of high flooding.
The Minister emphasized that the development of approach roads and the Majuli bridge is poised to ensure continuous connectivity, addressing the existing lack of a direct link. This move is expected to significantly improve the socio-economic conditions of the local population and promote tourism in the region.
“This strategic infrastructure investment is not only about enhancing connectivity but also about uplifting the lives of the people in the region. The development of approach roads and the Majuli bridge will bring about positive changes in the socio-economic landscape, providing a reliable and safe means of transportation for the residents,” said Shri Gadkari.
The project aligns with the government’s commitment to improving transportation networks across the country. Shri Gadkari emphasized that the new highway and flyover will not only reduce travel time for road users but also decrease vehicle operating costs, contributing to overall economic efficiency.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local communities and leaders who anticipate the positive impact on trade, tourism, and daily commuting. The project is expected to commence soon, with a focus on efficient execution and timely completion to bring about transformative changes in the region’s connectivity and socio-economic development.
