Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Sends Off Largest-Ever Indian Contingent for Paris Paralympics 2024

New Delhi: In a spirited send-off ceremony held in the capital today, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya extended his heartfelt best wishes to the Indian contingent set to compete in the Paris Paralympics 2024. The event, marked by enthusiasm and national pride, also saw the presence of Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Raksha Khadse.

Commending the athletes, Dr. Mandaviya remarked, “Our para-athletes possess a remarkable ability to overcome obstacles and turn challenges into opportunities. They embody the indomitable spirit of India and serve as a profound source of inspiration for our 1.4 billion citizens.” He further emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to providing athletes with the necessary resources and support to excel at the highest levels of competition.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the success of initiatives like Khelo India, which have nurtured numerous athletes, and the targeted support extended to 50 para-athletes through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). “This time, we are sending the largest-ever contingent of 84 para-athletes who will be participating in 12 games,” he proudly announced, underscoring the growing strength and talent of India’s para-athletes.

The athletes will compete in a diverse range of sports including archery, athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, blind judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo. The large contingent reflects India’s increasing prowess in para-sports and the nation’s commitment to inclusivity in athletics.

Dr. Mandaviya also took the opportunity to recognize and appreciate the invaluable support of the families and coaches behind these athletes. “I want to extend my wishes to your families and coaches who have stood by you from the beginning of your journey,” he said, acknowledging their dedication and unwavering commitment.

Adding to the excitement of the occasion, the Union Minister launched a special anthem titled “Macha Dhoom.” The energetic 3-minute 16-second anthem is designed to rally the athletes and ignite the spirit of competition, encapsulating the determination and drive of the Indian contingent as they head to Paris.

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Raksha Khadse, also addressed the gathering, praising the athletes for their remarkable dedication and determination. “Our athletes have demonstrated incredible resilience, and their journey is a true inspiration. We are immensely proud of them,” she said, echoing the sentiments of the nation.

Devendra Jhajharia, President of the Paralympic Committee of India, expressed his gratitude to the government for its continued support of Paralympians. He highlighted the pride and determination with which the athletes are preparing to represent India on the global stage in Paris.
