Union Minister Manohar Lal Launches PROMPT Portal for Thermal Power Project Monitoring

New Delhi: In a significant step towards streamlining the monitoring of thermal power projects in India, Union Minister of Power and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs,  Manohar Lal, today launched the Portal for Online Monitoring of Projects – Thermal (PROMPT) in New Delhi. The newly introduced platform aims to boost transparency, coordination, and efficiency within the country’s power sector.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Manohar Lal emphasized the critical role of electricity as a driver of economic growth in India, stating that with the rising demand for power, timely completion of ongoing schemes and thermal projects is essential. “The launch of PROMPT will enable transparent, coordinated, and effective management of the power sector, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule,” the minister said.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has been actively overseeing under-construction power projects through site visits, interactions with developers, and review meetings with stakeholders. The PROMPT portal, developed with the support of NTPC, represents a further step in the digitalization of this monitoring process, facilitating smoother operations for project developers.

Key Features of the PROMPT Portal:

  1. Real-Time Tracking and Analysis: The portal offers a centralized platform for monitoring all phases of project execution, enabling quick identification and resolution of potential issues before they escalate.
  2. Transparency and Accountability: By digitizing project management, PROMPT enhances transparency, helping to prevent time and cost overruns while improving the overall efficiency of project execution.
  3. Resource Optimization: The platform ensures better resource availability and management, helping to meet the nation’s growing electricity demands at a reasonable cost to consumers.

To help stakeholders become familiar with PROMPT’s functionality, training sessions have been conducted for project developers. As a result, many developers have already started uploading data into the portal on a monthly basis, further strengthening the monitoring and management process.

Minister Manohar Lal highlighted that the Ministry of Power remains committed to embracing innovative digital solutions to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of India’s power infrastructure. The government’s focus on digitalization is expected to ensure reliable, affordable electricity for all citizens while meeting the country’s growing energy needs.
