Union Minister Mandaviya Encourages Youth to Explore Global Career Opportunities in International Organisations

New Delhi: Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, today participated in a webinar on “Employment Opportunities for Youth in International Organisations,” organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in collaboration with the United Nations India, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the University Grants Commission.

The event, which attracted over 1,100 students from 42 premier institutions across Delhi/NCR, focused on providing young aspirants insights into global employment prospects. The webinar, live-streamed across the country, reached a broader audience of youth interested in law, business, management, and related fields.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the immense potential of India’s youth, calling them the nation’s true wealth. He highlighted how the talent and skills of Indian professionals are gaining international recognition, contributing significantly to global workforce needs.

“India’s youth are playing a pivotal role in shaping the world’s workforce. Their talent and determination are being acknowledged globally. I encourage you all to explore opportunities that allow you to contribute to international organisations and further hone your skills,” said Dr. Mandaviya.

He urged participants to explore internships or volunteering opportunities with international organisations, pointing out that such experiences help broaden perspectives and prepare them for diverse career challenges.

Dr. Mandaviya also encouraged youth to leverage the National Career Service (NCS) Portal, which houses over 37 lakh registered establishments seeking skilled individuals. He described the NCS portal as a valuable resource to connect youth with both national and international job opportunities.

Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, also addressed the audience, highlighting the critical role of young people as agents of social change and drivers of economic development and technological innovation.

Sumita Dawra, Secretary of Labour and Employment, spoke about the country’s demographic dividend, underscoring the immense potential of India’s youth. She also outlined plans to expand the Ministry’s initiatives, such as this webinar, to reach more youth across the country and those studying abroad.

The webinar featured prominent speakers, including Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India, and Michiko Miyamoto, Director of the ILO Country Office for India. They shared insights on the skills and qualifications required to secure opportunities in the UN system, including internships, volunteering programs, consultancies, and young professionals’ programs.

The experts also guided participants through the application processes, highlighting the competencies required and explaining how to navigate the UN Jobs Portal to apply for various available positions.

A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion with senior Indian experts working at the ILO’s Geneva Headquarters. Sukti Das Gupta, Director, and Srinivas B. Reddy, Chief of Skills & Employability, shared their personal career journeys, offering valuable advice on how students can embark on similar international careers.

The webinar successfully provided students with crucial information and guidance on pursuing global career opportunities, marking an important step in helping them realize their aspirations within international organisations.
