Union Minister Inaugurates Three New CIPET Centers to Boost Petrochemical Sector

New Delhi:  Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers and Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, virtually inaugurated three state-of-the-art centers of the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) today. These new centers, located in Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh, were dedicated to the nation as part of the government’s commitment to fostering skill development and research in the petrochemical sector.

The inaugurated CIPET centers include CSTS Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), CSTS Ranchi (Jharkhand), and CSTS Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh). The virtual ceremony saw the participation of Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Bhagwant Khuba, Secretary Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ms. Nivedita Shukla Verma, and other senior officials from the ministry.

During his inaugural address, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the significant role CIPET plays in the country and its transformation to meet the demands of the 21st century. He praised the institutes for contributing to the realization of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision by providing skilled manpower, conducting impactful research, and supporting production in the petrochemical industry.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the remarkable success of CIPET in facilitating employment for youth, stating that those trained by the institute secure nearly 100% job placements in the petrochemical sector. Originally established in 1968 in Chennai as the Central Plastic Engineering and Tool Institution, CIPET has evolved to offer a wide range of courses, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs.

The Union Minister underscored the government’s commitment to expanding the reach of CIPET, noting that the number of centers has increased from 23 to 47 over the last decade. This expansion aligns with the growing needs of the petrochemical industry in India.

Dr. Mandaviya further emphasized CIPET’s focus on research and innovation to achieve self-sufficiency. The institute has proactively addressed industry needs by advancing research in areas such as solar cells, gas separation, water purification, and polymer research. The commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements underscores CIPET’s pivotal role in supporting India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in the petrochemical sector.

The virtual inauguration marks a significant step forward in bolstering the petrochemical industry’s capabilities and nurturing a skilled workforce to drive India’s economic growth in the years to come.
