Union Minister Giriraj Singh Engages with Textile Industry Leaders

New Delhi, June 20, 2024: Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, held a crucial interaction with major industry representatives, Export Promotion Councils, and Associations representing the entire textile value chain today. The meeting aimed to discuss strategies for attracting significant investments, enhancing infrastructure, improving ease of doing business, and boosting job creation, particularly in labor-intensive segments like garmenting and apparel.

Joining Minister Singh were Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for Textiles, Rachna Shah, Secretary Textiles, and senior officials from the Ministry. The discussions underscored the sector’s contribution to economic development and its potential for future growth, emphasizing manufacturing, exports, and employment generation.

During his remarks, Minister Singh highlighted the critical need for modern world-class infrastructure and stressed the importance of making the business environment more conducive to attract investments. He also focused on the importance of job creation within the textile industry, particularly in segments that demand high labor input.

Representatives from the industry expressed their gratitude to the Union Minister for the opportunity to share their views and suggestions. They discussed the current status of the textile sector, identifying challenges and potential growth opportunities. The industry leaders appreciated several key initiatives taken by the Union Government, including:

  • PM MITRA Park Scheme: Aims to develop integrated large-scale and modern industrial infrastructure facilities for the entire value chain of the textile industry.
  • PLI Scheme for Textiles: Production Linked Incentive scheme designed to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities and exports.
  • National Technical Textiles Mission: A mission to position India as a global leader in technical textiles and increase the penetration level of technical textiles in the domestic market.
  • SAMARTH Skilling Programme: An initiative for capacity building and skill development in the textiles sector.

These initiatives, industry leaders noted, would help attract investment, expand capacities, and generate employment. They also shared innovative ideas and suggestions for accelerating the sector’s growth and enhancing job opportunities.
