Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Strengthens Educational Ties with Singapore

Singapore: In a significant move to deepen India-Singapore cooperation in education, Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan met with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade & Industry, Gan Kim Yong. The two leaders engaged in discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in skills-based education and training, with an emphasis on equipping future generations with the competencies required for an evolving global economy.

Earlier in the day, Pradhan also held meaningful conversations with Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, on elevating bilateral cooperation in school education, vocational training, and research. The discussions centered on expanding the knowledge partnership between the two nations, reflecting shared goals in advancing educational excellence.

In a meeting with Singapore’s Minister for Education, Chan Chun Sing, Pradhan explored avenues for further collaboration in education, including vocational training and technology-driven learning strategies. He also met with Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan, to discuss deepening the India-Singapore Knowledge Partnership, which aims to foster closer academic and research exchanges between the two nations.

During his visit, Pradhan toured Singapore’s renowned Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), where he observed the school’s innovative use of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance student experiences and learning outcomes. Impressed by HCI’s approach, Pradhan noted the similarities between the institution’s strategies and India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly in nurturing students’ unique strengths and talents.

Pradhan emphasized India’s commitment to providing students with access to world-class education and shaping responsible global citizens through forward-thinking educational policies and international cooperation.

The Minister’s visit to Singapore is part of a broader tour that will also include a trip to Australia from October 20 to 26, 2024. His visit aims to foster collaboration, participation, and synergy in critical areas of mutual interest in education, as both nations work towards building sustainable and innovative education systems for the future.
