Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Interacts with Scholars of Newly Classified Classical Languages

New Delhi: Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, engaged in a meaningful interaction with scholars of five newly classified classical languages — Prakrit, Pali, Marathi, Bangla, and Assamese — at a special event today. The event saw the presence of Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti; M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of UGC; alongside various academicians, scholars, and officials from the Ministry of Education.

The scholars expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognizing these languages and including them in the prestigious list of classical languages. They pledged their continued support in efforts to promote and enrich these important Indian languages.

Speaking at the event, Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to promoting Indian languages in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He emphasized the importance of celebrating and preserving India’s rich linguistic heritage, reiterating that the government is dedicated to supporting learning in Indian languages across all levels.

Pradhan also noted Prime Minister Modi’s consistent message that all languages spoken in India are Indian languages. He affirmed that the government is working diligently to ensure the strengthening and facilitation of learning in all Indian languages, with a strong focus on encouraging multilingualism and creating opportunities for these languages to flourish on a global stage.

“The soul of India lives through its languages,” Pradhan said, adding that efforts are being made to expand the international presence of Indian languages. The interaction marked another significant step toward the government’s vision of promoting linguistic diversity and enhancing the cultural and intellectual legacy of India through its languages.
