Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Attends IIM Mumbai’s 1st Convocation; Unveils New Logo and Hostel

Mumbai: The Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, graced the 1st convocation of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai. The event witnessed the participation of eminent personalities, including Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange, Prof. Manoj K. Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, and Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIM Mumbai.

During the convocation, Shri Pradhan digitally unveiled the new logo of IIM Mumbai and inaugurated the institute’s hostel. He commended the students for their achievements and extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for converting NITIE to IIM, fulfilling Mumbai’s long-standing demand for a dedicated business school.

Highlighting the transformative power of education, Shri Pradhan emphasized the significance of the ‘GenZ’ or Amrit Peedhi, stating that this generation holds the key to driving socio-economic change. He applauded the increased participation of underprivileged communities and women in education, considering it a positive sign of a knowledge-driven society.

Encouraging entrepreneurship, Shri Pradhan urged the youth to transition from being job seekers to job providers, aligning with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020. He urged the institute to focus on creating an ecosystem that fosters ideas, leading to the emergence of future unicorns.

Expressing hope that IIM Mumbai would become a global center of excellence, Shri Pradhan called upon the institution to play a crucial role in character-building and nation-building. Addressing the graduating students, he emphasized the concept of ‘Kartavya Bodh’ (sense of duty) towards the global community and urged them to lead efforts in making India the epicenter of the global economy.

Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty, in his address, outlined IIM Mumbai’s commitment to accelerating research and industry connections. Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari thanked the Prime Minister, the Education Minister, and other stakeholders for their roles in renaming NITIE to IIM Mumbai and shared the institute’s report card.

The convocation concluded with a total of 1013 students receiving degrees, including 32 fellow students and 955 postgraduate students across various programs. Established in 1963, IIM Mumbai continues to stand as a beacon of educational excellence, aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020 and actively contributing to the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
