Union Home Minister Amit Shah Highlights Strengthened Intelligence Capabilities and Future Challenges

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, delivered the ‘37th Intelligence Bureau Centenary Endowment Lecture’ in New Delhi today. The event was attended by the Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, former Directors of the Intelligence Bureau, Directors General of Central Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces, and senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In his address, Amit Shah emphasized the significant advancements in India’s security landscape under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the last five years have witnessed a decisive battle against long-standing security challenges such as the Northeast, Left-Wing Extremism, and Kashmir, which had previously impacted peace, law and order, and security. According to the Union Home Minister, violent incidents in these regions have dropped by 70%, and fatalities have reduced by approximately 86%.

Amit Shah acknowledged the unwavering dedication and proactive approach of the Intelligence Bureau, highlighting its role in maintaining national security. He credited the Intelligence Bureau’s tradition of sacrifice, vigilance, and integrity for the country’s safety, especially in the face of evolving modern threats.

The Union Home Minister stressed the need for an expanded definition of sovereignty, incorporating areas like innovation, technology, and economic development. He noted that the scope of security extends beyond borders to include cyber threats, misinformation, and modern challenges such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and blockchain technologies.

Shah pointed out that the Intelligence Bureau must continuously adapt to these emerging threats. He emphasized the importance of a robust intelligence ecosystem that not only addresses physical threats but also digital and technological vulnerabilities. He highlighted the need for collaboration with international allies to detect anti-India organizations and networks, incorporating offensive strategies alongside intelligence sharing.

Additionally, the Union Home Minister underscored the necessity for training and equipping young officers with cutting-edge technology and methodologies to combat contemporary challenges. He stressed the importance of building an ecosystem to counter misinformation and ensure that the Intelligence Bureau remains at the forefront of safeguarding national interests.
