Union Health Minister Launches AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card for Hassle-Free Healthcare Transactions

New Delhi: In a significant move towards enhancing patient services and advancing the Digital India initiative, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, inaugurated the AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card at AIIMS New Delhi. The introduction of this card aims to streamline and simplify payment processes for patients receiving treatment at AIIMS.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the card’s role in addressing a longstanding challenge faced by patients from remote areas who traditionally carried cash for their medical expenses. The AIIMS Smart Payment Card eliminates this need, offering a convenient and secure alternative. Patients and their caregivers can easily obtain the card from facilitation centers within AIIMS, New Delhi, and use it for seamless transactions at various counters.

Describing the launch as a significant stride in patient care and aligned with the Digital India initiative, the Union Health Minister praised the transformative impact of Digital India, bringing unprecedented ease and safety to the healthcare sector. He referred to the Smart Payment Card as ‘One AIIMS, One Card,’ highlighting its potential to facilitate quick fund transfers for urgent payment needs related to patients at AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr. Mandaviya also disclosed plans to extend the card’s services to all AIIMS facilities nationwide in the near future, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing patient convenience across the country.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to formalize the collaboration between SBI and AIIMS New Delhi for the implementation of the Smart Card system. This collaboration marks a crucial step in leveraging technology to enhance healthcare accessibility and affordability for patients. The Smart Payment Card system aligns with the broader vision of creating a digital ecosystem within healthcare institutions, fostering efficiency, and ensuring a patient-centric approach.
