Union Cabinet Apprises MoU Between CDSCO and ARCSA, Ecuador in Medical Products Regulation

New Delhi:  The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has been apprised of a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 7, 2023, between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the Republic of India, and Agencia Nacional de Regulacion, Control Y Vigilancia Sanitaria – ARCSA, Doctor Leopoldo Izquieta Perez, The Republic of Ecuador, focusing on cooperation in the field of Medical Products Regulation.

The MoU aims to enhance regulatory understanding between the two entities, fostering increased cooperation and improved coordination in the field of medical products regulation. This is expected to contribute to better global collaboration. Convergence in regulatory practices resulting from the MoU is anticipated to boost the export of medicines from India. Consequently, this could lead to expanded employment opportunities for skilled professionals in the Pharmaceutical sector. The MoU is seen as a step towards achieving the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat by facilitating the export of medical products and, consequently, foreign exchange earnings.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) operates as a Subordinate Office of the Directorate General of Health Services, an attached office of the Department of Health and Family Welfare. CDSCO holds the status of the National Regulatory Authority for drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics in India. Agencia Nacional de Regulacion, Control Y Vigilancia Sanitaria – ARCSA, Doctor Leopoldo Izquieta Perez serves as the Regulatory Agency overseeing drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics in the Republic of Ecuador.

The MoU is expected to strengthen ties in the medical products regulatory domain, fostering collaboration and promoting the exchange of best practices between India and Ecuador.
