New Delhi: After an impressive showing in the Pool stage, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team will now shift focus to the high-pressure Super4s of the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou, where they face Korea, hosts China, and defending champions Japan in pursuit of a place in the final.
India dominated Pool B, finishing on top with seven points. Their campaign began with a massive 11-0 win over Thailand, followed by a gritty 2-2 draw against Japan, before closing the stage with a 12-0 demolition of Singapore. Forwards Navneet Kaur and Mumtaz Khan were standout performers, scoring five goals each, and are expected to lead India’s attack in the next round.
The Super4s will see each of the four teams play each other once, with the top two qualifying for the final. India’s schedule begins with Korea on September 10, followed by matches against China on September 11 and Japan on September 13.
India enter the round on strong momentum, while Korea, who notched two wins and a loss in their group, will be aiming to upset the rhythm. Significantly, India have the upper hand in recent meetings with Korea, winning three of the last five clashes.
Coach Harendra Singh, looking ahead to the tougher battles, said the team must stay disciplined and consistent. “The pool stage gave us confidence and momentum, but the Super4s will be a different challenge. Our focus will be on maintaining structure, staying sharp in defence, and converting our chances. The players are motivated and eager to build on what we’ve achieved so far,” he noted.
