UN Removes Randeep Hooda As Its Ambassador

New Delhi: After an old video of Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda surfaced on social media in which the actor could be seen making a sexist and casteist joke on former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, the actor is being criticised for his remarks. 

Since the controversy erupted over the video, on Friday the UN removed the actor as its ambassador for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).

A 43 second video which is from an event held in 2012, the actor could be seen with other guests where he cracks  a sexist and castiest joke on the senior leader.

Hooda was appointed as a CMS Ambassador for Migratory Species in February 2020 due to his support for the conservation of wildlife.

The Secretariat of the Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), issued a statement making the announcement of his removal. “The CMS Secretariat finds the comments made in the video to be offensive, and they do not reflect the values of the CMS Secretariat or the United Nations”, the statement read.
