Two women cricketers from Odisha selected for women’s IPL

Bhubaneswar: Two women cricketers from Odisha have been selected to play for the women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held this year.

Cricketer Priyanka Priyadarshini and Sujata Mallik from Odisha have been picked to play for the IPL Trailblazers team.

For the first time, a full-fledged women’s IPL will be held. Three women teams IPL  Supernovas, IPL Trailblazers and IPL Velocity will take part.

As per information, 14 overseas players will play for the three IPL teams.

Priyanka Priyadarshini  is a right arm off spinner. She was the joint highest wicket-taker for her state team Odisha and second highest wicket-taker overall in the recently concluded senior women’s T20 league.

Sujata Mallik is right arm opening quick bowler from Odisha. She was the joint leading wicket-taker for her state and second highest wicket-taker overall in the recently concluded senior women’s T20 league. She claimed 11 wickets in seven matches, including one four wicket haul. She bowled at an economy rate of under six runs per over.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2018 had organized a single match which was played between IPL Trailblazers and IPL Supernovas at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In 2019, IPL Velocity team was the new addition.
